Lisa-
You are being too hard on yourself. Judging yourself to be bad, unsuccessful, and inadequate WILL not make you feel better or change what has already happened. I know you are very disappointed in yourself. Sometimes, we are disappointed with ourselves. It is part of life. You see that failing is normal. What is not and what shows greater strength is getting up and doing it again, and again. Do NOT QUIT on yourself.
You can still do a summer job. You can get a job working retail if you wanted. Life is not over because of an "F". Your life hasn't even started.
You didn't do well in econ. Maybe you should take a stats class instead. Stats is a lot easier. Or you can redo algebra. Econ might not be your cup of tea. Some thing else will be.
You are such a good daughter, sister, and friend. Do NOT let disappointment make you disillusioned. You have to get up and try again and have the courage to stand up for yourself and what you want. Does that make sense?
Lisa- you will do great things. Maybe you won't be an economist. Many people are not and never want to be an economist. It doesn't mean that you can't go to college.
You can and will get into college. I'll help you and you will be great. It might not be a piece of cake for you, but it just means that it will mean more to you and you won't take it for granted.
Do you know that you will be the first person in your family to go to college? Your dad didn't. Your mom didn't. You have the opportunity to be the first to attend and finish college. It doesn't not have to be an ivy school. All it needs to be is a school that will support, nurture, and develop your natural skills and talents. You have talent and an incredible ability to do things in life. Do NOT let an F make you feel like you are a failure.
Jennifer
Lisa, you are NOT stupid and you DON'T fail at life. Don't think so lowly of yourself. Like Jen said, your life isn't over because of one F. And like I kept telling you, not having APs doesn't matter that much. Just do well in your classes next year so you'll finish your high school career in a strong manner.
You know, I failed math in ninth grade and chem in tenth. I was mad at myself, yes, and I felt stupid. But hey, I know I'm not a math or chem person, and I'm okay with that. The major I want, if it involves a lot of math or chem, I'll improve at them, because I know I can if I try.
Also, like Jen said, you don't need an Ivy League school to show you're smart. If you still want to be an economist, find a college with a strong program for that -- it doesn't have to be an Ivy League! I couldn't care less about Ivy Leagues. I'm most likely attending a CUNY with a strong environmental engineering program, because that's what suits my needs.
Chin up, Lisa. Hwaiting! You can't keep thinking this negatively, otherwise your attitude will affect your schooling next year. Feel better, and talk to me anytime you need to.
